Please find below our Homework Policy. Learning Reflection and Homework sheets are given out every Friday so that you can work together with your child to assess their learning, review achievements, engage in Big Chat and be clear about what homework is expected to be handed in the following week.
If you have any questions about your child's homework please do not hesitate to talk to their class teacher.

Extra homework ideas for all ages
Garsington CE Primary School
1) Reading
Reading is just about the best homework anyone, adult or child, can do. We want all of our children to love learning through reading diverse reading materials, from fiction to non-fiction, to comics and newspapers. Try to read together and have a book group, family members can talk about story plots and characters.
2) Abacus on line
These are on line sites that all children from Year 1 have access to. Please ask your child’s class teacher if you do not have a log in. Your child can play educational games, learn new skills and compete against their class members as well as other children in our school and other schools. They also receive certificates that we can present in our Friday assemblies.
3) Extending topic work
It is always great when children bring in things that they have worked on at home linked to their topic. They share this with the class and this helps develop everyone’s understanding. Some ideas to try at home:
- Create a poster of everything they know.
- Write down questions that they want to know the answer to and find them out.
- Visit the library and do some research.
- Design a leaflet telling someone about their topic.
- Design and make an artefact linked to the topic.
- Interview a family member or friend about the topic. This is great for questioning and listening skills.
4) Phonics and Spelling
This website has excellent ideas and advice on how to support children with reading and phonics.
5) Spelling Games
These are some ideas for games to play to get children to learn tricky words. They can be set as timed challenges.
- Write all your spellings in alphabetical order.
- Put each of your spellings into a sentence (try to use exciting punctuation).
- Write the first paragraph of a story using all your spelling words (remember to have a fantastic opener).
- Play hangman using the words.
6) Timetables Games
These are some games to play to help children to learn their times tables:
- Bingo
- Times table tennis
- Hangman sums
7) Responsibility at Home
Challenge your child to do something independently at home. This could be to help with a household job, complete homework without being asked, or challenge himself/herself/themselves to learn a new skill. Responsibility at Home certificates are available outside of the office and once they have been completed by parents, they can be presented at Friday’s sharing assembly.
8) Newsround
Go on the BBC Newsround website. This is a great way to find out about current affairs and the programme includes frequent opportunities to take part in fun quizzes.
