Science Week 2017
Science Week 2017 Rocks!
We had to keep advance news of our fantastic Space-themed Science Week 2017 under wraps for security reasons this year as lunar and meteorite samples were exclusively loaned to the school! We were privileged to have unique samples under our care for pupils to look at, hold and learn about their origin. In small groups and under close supervision pupils had access to these fantastic resources throughout the week and parents and carers were also invited into school on Thursday to come and see the moon rocks and asteroids.
Each year group visited the fantastic Explorer Dome - a pop up planetarium.
Reception and Key Stage 1 explored the awe and wonder of the sky. After a story-telling introduction to the earth, moon, sun and stars pupils found out why the sun moves across the sky, looked for different phases of the moon and had a go at spotting Orion in the stars.
Key Stage 2 pupils explored our planet, moon, sun and solar system; how they move and what we see in the sky. Pupils learned about the stars through the gods and heroes, myths and legends of Ancient Greece.
